Join 4-H
It’s Easy: Just Contact Us!
If you are a young person interested in joining 4-H, tell a parent or guardian that you want to get involved, and then have them contact us at the WSU Extension 4-H Office by either phone (360-397-6060 ext. 5710) or email Shirley.morgan@clark.wa.gov. We’ll ask you for some contact information and the kinds of projects you might be interested in doing. Then, we’ll send you an introductory packet, and give you contact information for clubs that might be a good fit. We encourage you to visit more than one club to ““try them on for size”, and not to be discouraged if the first one you visit doesn’t seem like the right fit. There are over 150 4-H clubs in Clark County, and one of them is sure to be the right one for you!
Membership Eligibility
Membership is open to all youth between ages 5 and 19, and there is no fee to join. Members who are 5-8 years old can be “mini” 4-Hers (or what we call “Cloverbuds”). For safety reasons, members must be in the 3rd grade and have reached their 8th birthday by January 1 of the current 4-H year to be eligible for competitive situations (including livestock shows or sales), enrollment in large animal projects, and enrollment in projects using firearms, motorized vehicles and food preservation projects using hot water baths or pressure canning methods.
Some people think that you have to live on a farm to be in 4-H, and that is absolutely NOT TRUE! Not many people know that if you count up every 4-H member in the United States, there are more 4-Hers who live in cities than in rural areas!
The 4-H Year Starts in October!
The 4-H year begins in October, and new members and leaders are accepted throughout the year. It’s important to keep in mind, though, that youth have to be enrolled by March 31 of each year if they want to show their projects at the Clark County Fair in August. Please email Shirley at Shirley.morgan@clark.wa.gov to request more information about 4-H, and to locate clubs by area of the county or area of interest. Or, call her at 360-397-6060 ext. 5710.
