4-H in the Community
Service to Citizens and Environment
As part of the 4-H pledge, 4-Hers commit their “hands to larger service”. Throughout the year, individual clubs give back to their community in many ways, including animal rescue, charitable donations, environmental improvement, and moral support. In 2004, for example, clubs made cash donations to the Humane Society, conducted a diaper drive for a local program serving women and infants, planted flower beds outside a free counseling clinic, cleaned up the stretch of highway adopted by Clark County 4-H, and wrote letters of support to military troops serving in Iraq. In addition, 4-H partners with the Clark County Juvenile Court and Battleground School District’s Center for Agriculture, Science, and Environmental Education (C.A.S.E.E.) to offer young offenders a chance fight hunger in Clark County by working in the 4-H Restorative Community Service at C.A.S.E.E. food bank garden (link to separate page about program). This year, these young people and their 4-H leaders donated 4,400 pounds of food to the Family Resource Center’s North County Food Bank.
