Mother’s Day Activities

10th ANNUAL MOTHER’S DAY PLANT AND GARDEN FAIR MAY 12, 2007 – Saturday

Get in the gardening mood. Regional nurseries, local artists and vendors bring you a variety of plants and garden accessories. Explore unique offerings of garden art, wind chimes, planters, garden furniture, iron works, and much more. Free for the children is the "Kids Zone" sponsored by Craft Warehouse. Kids can craft that "one of a kind" Mother's Day gift. Community volunteers help throughout the day. Make this a fun day to meander along the streets of downtown Camas and enjoy the small town atmosphere with your family and friends.

Hulda Klager Lilac Garden LILAC FESTIVAL – April 13th thru Mother’s Day, Sunday May 13, 2007 – Last DAY

If you love lilacs, you'll want to visit the Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens in Woodland, WA, where you can enjoy over 150 varieties. Step back in time to the 1890's and tour the Victorian farmhouse, gift shop, and garden during the annual Lilac Festival when the lilacs are in full bloom. In addition to all the lilacs, you'll also see many other trees, shrubs, and flowers – including some of the largest trees in Washington State. Lilac plants may be purchased at the gardens during the Festival or by mail order.

PORTLAND JAPANESE GARDEN Mother's Day Celebration Sunday, May 13, 2007, 11am-4pm

Mother’s Day is celebrated at the garden with a presentation of teas from around the world. You'll also find poetry readings, and live music in the pavilion and throughout the garden. We invite everyone to enjoy the garden as we pay tribute to mothers everywhere. At the heart of a Japanese garden is harmony with nature. Through the careful use of plants, stones, and water, areas of serene and quiet beauty emerge. These peaceful spots in the garden lend themselves to meditation and contemplation.

Leach Botanical Garden

Leach Botanical Garden specializes in preserving the original Leach collection as well as introducing Northwest native plants through educational programs, conservation, and community involvement. The collection of more than 2,000 special hybrids, cultivars (including NW natives and the Leach original collection) can be enjoyed on a self-guided tour that winds around the Manor House and along Johnson Creek. There are no pristine paths or sterile landscaping. Instead, the Leaches combined exotic plants with native ones in order to achieve an overflowing environment. Be sure to visit the gift shop.

Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden

Mother's Day Weekend features several hundred trusses of early blooming rhododendrons. The more than 2,500 rhododendrons, azaleas, and companion plants in the garden have all been donated by volunteers and interested individuals, or purchased with specially donated funds. Beginning in early spring and continuing into summer, they provide a magnificent display of color, giving visitors the opportunity to view many varieties rarely seen in the Pacific Northwest. During the fall, many companion trees add dramatic coloring. Spring-fed Crystal Springs Lake surrounds much of the garden, attracting many species of birds and waterfowl.
